Prototyping A.R & Unity as a Creative Platform

Whilst Virtual Reality will become the norm in the future , the limitations of accessibility, cost and the current physical characteristics of the devices themselves leave room for other forms blending real life and virtual reality open for sometime yet. As the current corporate battle formations take shape in regards to who will eventually own the Virtual Reality domain as a medium are yet to be realised, the power of integrating mobile devices with computers as an interactive platform has become evident to me alongside the mere utility of Unity’s game engine as a streamlined time efficient pathway to multi platform applications.

An augmented reality medium I’ve under development (in large part because Im not aware of its current existence) has a great many creative, commercial merits & we will no doubt see applied commercially in the near future. My initial tests involve 3D objects coming out in front of the computer screen as viewed on ios/android devices utilising vuforia’s target functions,* see video below.

The next phase currently under development involves the ios devices communicating back to the Unity game engine on all web browsers (running on a server rather than within a web browser itself) and accessing the 3D world behind the screen in tandem with the 3D object in front of the screen. I should have this platform running with and interactive 3D scene behind the screen online for all with a smartphone by about mid June 17.
